69The Mind-Blowing...I’m a mixed African-American woman, so often in the western world, my experience was obviously labelled “Other”. In East Africa, the strangest shift happened, where though I am Black, I’m considered half caste (in a culture that places that mix on a pedes- tal), while at the same time being American and foreign, which translates into additional economic privilege.
