In the minibus, traditional music and religious icons hung on to the rear view mirror. Everybody was staring at me like I was a freak. They offered me food and tschatscha, a 45% proof georgian alcohol. In Georgia when someone offers you alco- hol it’s really impolite to refuse. I consider that I have to comply with customs when I am abroad. It’s like this, that I drank my first glass of tschatscha at 9 am.In Georgia the road safety is inadequate, some road portions aren’t tarred, and there are no safety rails in the mountains. The drivers pass over in the curves, and cows sleep in the middle of the road, etc. In addition to that, every time passengers and the driver see a religious building, they make a cross sign three times, which immediately creates a special atmosphere.10
