Because there are no out sourced compa- nies that do this kind of thing, folks have an internal community that they rely on. After each rescue, the good samaritans would smile, wave and continue on with their day. No thought of how I’d interrupted their life, etc. I’m from NYC, a city where people are lovely, but also intensely busy with their own lives, so the level of commu- nity in Tanzania blew me away. It is exactly how I think our lives should be, interspersed with genuine everyday kindness from our neighbors.78
