I began living and travelling on rivers while producing my second documentary film Stay Afloat. The film followed a group of self-described Boat Punks. The young D.I.Y. travellers found a life of freedom and adventure while living on homemade boats, navigating the rivers of mid-America.After an epic journey down the Mississip- pi River from Minneapolis to New Orleans, four of the subjects of Stay Afloat planned a trip down the Mekong River. They intend- ed to travel from Laos, through Cambodia, and into Vietnam. I decided to join them to document the journey. I shot these photo- graphs travelling down the Nam Ou River in Northern Laos, the Sekong River and Tonle’ Sap lake in Cambodia, and the Mekong River.35
