When the family arrive at the door they put money inside the bride’s nylon pocket. Once everyone has given their gift, the father and daughter are ready to take her on her final journey to becoming a wife. The villagers are all watching. The car to speed her along to her new home is given a little make over. Her father kissed her one last time and it was enough to bring her to tears. Her husband joined her in the back seat as the tears rolled out behind the material covering her face.She remains covered for the duration of the journey and when she gets to her new home, many wellwishers guide her up to the front door. She anoints her new home with a finger dipped in oil, her hand guided around the doorway touching the frame five times. It’s another tradition that must be followed to bring good luck and happiness throughout her life.Once inside, she is led to her bedroom and given a pair of pink socks and black shoes that signify that she is a new bride. She keeps these on for the rest of the day. Once she is wearing them, the husband, sister or mother, pulls back the veil to ensure that she is the correct bride, as is the village custom. Then the ceremony is nearly complete. If these rules are not followed then the wedding can be cancelled.18
