The second day is all about fulfilling traditional customs. The central theme to this is the groom picking up his bride from her family home and taking her to her new home. For this to happen the bride is prepared in the family home and this can only be done by women. One of the traditions that is always carried out, is to style the bride’s hair. It’s brushed repeatedly and fragrant smelling flowers form a natural tiara. Given it was the height of summer, the heated mix of scents lingered in the air. They take their time to decorate and adorn the bride with many different layers of material, wrapping her slowly while styling her hair and singing.The bride has to wear three layers of skirts and when she is finally wrapped, dressed and has her face covered, a male relative must come to attach a belt around her waist to signify her chastity and readiness for her husband. Another tradition is for the women dressing the bride to attach a pocket to her so guests at the ceremony can put money inside as a wedding day present. If it is not attached then she cannot leave the home.14
