Our conversation took place in Spanish and, at times, with gestures filtered through German. But our real point of connection has been human feeling, which we share as women. These isolated communities contain, for me, extraordinary lives. The world of these women is fascinating to me, enigmatic.
That journey has also come to signify a great adventure for me, by which I also extracted myself from my daily world and set off on those dusty roads, toward my own back story.
As the daughter of Christian parents, I remember certain moments of my early childhood of conservative customs, marked by the presence of religion in our lives. In some way, I seek in their colors and their customs, something of my own history. Looking at these mennonite women, is also to be looked at, by them.
