So when I stumbled upon the Metro Bar in Harlem in 1994 based on the recommendation of a stranger, it was a revelation. I found myself in an atmosphere that reminded me of those parties from my childhood. It was an environment of musicians and audience members interacting freely and of open jam sessions with unexpected musicians sitting in with the band.
